2 lb (1 kg) beef or lamb, cubed

1 lb (500 g) potatoes, peeled and cubed

1 lb (500 g) cabbage, roughly chopped

2 medium onions, sliced

2 medium carrots, sliced

1 red bell pepper, sliced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon (5 g) salt

1 teaspoon (5 g) black pepper

2 tablespoons (30 ml) vegetable oil

3 cups (750 ml) water or beef broth

For Garnish:

2 tablespoons (30 ml) parsley, chopped

Instructions:

Prepare the Ingredients: Wash and chop all vegetables. Cube the meat into bite-sized pieces.

Layer the Ingredients: In a large pot or traditional clay pot, layer the ingredients starting with meat, followed by potatoes, cabbage, onions, carrots, bell peppers, and garlic. Sprinkle salt and pepper over each layer. Repeat until all ingredients are used.

Add Liquid and Cook: Pour water or broth over the layered ingredients. Drizzle with vegetable oil. Cover the pot with a lid and cook on low heat for 2–3 hours. If using an oven, preheat it to 350°F (175°C) and bake for the same duration.

Check and Stir: Halfway through cooking, gently stir the stew to ensure even cooking and prevent sticking.

Serving: Serve Bosanski Lonac warm in bowls, garnished with fresh parsley. Pair with crusty bread for a complete meal. This recipe serves 6–8 people, making it ideal for family gatherings or dinner parties.
