Choreg is a soft, slightly sweet Armenian bread, traditionally enjoyed during Easter and other festive occasions. Ingredients

5 cups (625g) all-purpose flour

1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, melted

1 cup (240ml) warm milk

3/4 cup (150g) sugar

2 eggs

1 tbsp (10g) dry yeast

1 tsp salt

1 tsp mahlab (optional, for authentic flavor)

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 egg yolk (for egg wash)

2 tbsp sesame seeds (optional, for topping)

Instructions

Prepare the Dough In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm milk with 1 tbsp sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.

Mix the Ingredients In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and mahlab. Add melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, and the yeast mixture. Mix and knead into a smooth, elastic dough.

Let It Rise Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 2-3 hours until doubled in size.

Shape the Choreg Divide the dough into portions and shape into braids or rolls. Place them on a baking sheet.

Bake Brush with egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.

Serving Choreg is best served warm with butter, jam, or a cup of Armenian coffee. It’s a perfect breakfast or holiday treat.
